The Vaka and Being Sick

I apologize for the silence on the blog recently. The last week has been so busy and then on Sunday night I came down with either food poisoning or a really bad virus and have been under the weather since. In fact, things got so bad that I ended up at a clinic yesterday getting an i.v. full of fluid because I was so dehydrated. Not good. But I'm coming around and have been sleeping a lot and hope to be back to my normal self soon.

Last Friday I had the opportunity to sail on a Tongan boat called the Hine Moana. The Hine Moana is a boat that was recreated based on drawings and artifacts gathered depicting the boats that were used nearly 1,000 years ago here in the South Pacific. This specific boat has made numerous cross-Pacific journeys. I can't imagine living on it in the wide open ocean, but it was fun to sail it around the Port Refuge.

Also, September 1 (Sunday) is my one year anniversary of joining Peace Corps! I left America 1 year ago to start this grand journey and I'm so blessed to see where it has taken me. The memories, friends and adventures I have been on will stay with me wherever I go.
Here I am with one of the women who crew the ship!
